The important educational and business role of the city maintains its position as major arena for versatile social and cultural events. The city experiences constant growth and improvement of infrastructure and in recent times hosts conferences and meetings of highest international level. Projects aimed at the city development are also given much attention.

British Society for the History of Science (BSHS) schedules its annual conference for 30 June. The highlights of the event are cutting-edge learning resources and techniques. The Centre for Continuing Education offers a number of science-related courses that are open to public.

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Manchester University aims to provide a portal website for European integration-focused activities and studies in The University of Manchester and partners and stakeholders in the North West. The main aim of the establishment is to develop local and regional links between stakeholders, researchers, teachers and students. In January a hi-tech Internet Café was inaugurated, providing great unofficial venue for various mass communication related events, patronized by the organization.

Manchester City Council is elaborating the project of the new off-road cycleway scheduled to 2007-2008 to connect primary and high schools of Burnage and Levenshulme. It will be incorporated in the Fallowfield Loop, contributing to the promotion of safe journeying to school.

The city is notable not only for municipal development incentives, but also various entertainment and music events. Manchester Evening News Arena is the largest venue, Bridgewater Hall features classical concerts and world music.
