Manchester United Football Club is one of the most popular world clubs with over 50 million supporters worldwide. The club is one of the most successful in English football, ceding the first place only to Liverpool F.C. Sir Alex Ferguson is the current manager of the club, since 6 November 1986. The current captain is Gary Neville, who succeeded Roy Keane in November 2005.
Initially their colours were green and gold. In 1902 the club changed uniforms to red jerseys, white shorts and black socks. Uniform worn when Manchester United plays abroad comprise white jerseys with black shorts and white socks.
The club won the Premier League 16 times and is current champion. They have also won the FA Cup a record 11 times, the League Cup twice, the European Cup twice, the UEFA cup once, the Intercontinental Cup once. It boasts the highest average attendance in English football since 1965, and in early 200s they were the world leaders for revenue.
On 13 May 2005 the controlling interest of Manchester United was bought by American businessman Malcolm Glazer. Three days later his share grew to 75% and the club was once again announced private.
After claiming back the Premier League title in the Manchester Derby, the club is planning a trip to the Far East, scheduled on July 2007. It will interfere with the planned AFC Asian Cup, because Asian Football Confederation fears that the event will draw attention from their spectacular tournament.
