The city of Manchester may look as a modern industrial metropolis, but it treasures fine examples of Gothic and Victorian architecture, harmoniously merging with their modern background in and incomparable ensemble.

Manchester Cathedral is listed among the classic samples of Gothic style. The construction of this magnificent building began in 13^th century, when the city experienced rapid economic growth. Additions were made throughout the year to make the edifice look as it is now. Regular sermons are held every week.

St. Ann's church, built as a rival for Cathedral, is the main church of central Manchester. This medieval wonder, built in stone, managed to survive extensive clearings of the industrial era.

Town Hall is one of the city's major highlights. Built in the magnificent Victorian Gothic Revival style, it is decorated with stained-glass windows, carved stone, sculptures. Impressive banquet hall is adorned with murals, depicting scenes from the history of the city.

 Heaton hall is a neo-classical country house amidst large gardens of the Heaton Park. It is open for visitors from March to October. Wythenshawe Hall, dating back to Tudor times, features distinctive traits of the period, such as a visible timber frame and oak-panelled interior. The building is enclosed with beautiful gardens.                                                                                                                                      

Quarry Bank Mill is a restored working cotton mill. It exhibits authentic equipment, shows technological processes. Nice period cottages reflect the atmosphere of Victorian era.  Lyme Park is a beautiful mansion, dating from Middle Ages. The complex includes conservatory, Deer Park, Dutch garden, lake, walking paths. It was featured in BBC "Pride and Prejudice".

Cornerhouse Galleries on Oxford Road are well known for excellent collection of visual arts, including painting, photography, sculpture. It showcases temporary modern art exhibitions, which really have nothing to envy to London ones.

Museum of Science and Industry is located on the Castlefield area displays various period of technologic development, placing emphasis on early industrialization, city development in Victorian era. There are many activities for kids. Exhibitions on the socio-historical aspects of science are held from time to time.
